Deck building across the Treasure Valley
Meridian is home base. From there the working radius covers all of Ada County and the eastern half of Canyon County, which is about half an hour in any direction. The terrain, the housing age, and the lot sizes change as you move across the valley, and so does what a deck project involves.
Meridian
The home market. Post-2000 subdivision lots, flat back yards, recorded easements, and a lot of west-facing sun.
Boise
Ten miles east. Older housing stock than Meridian, sloped foothills lots, and elevated deck work.
Eagle
Northeast of Meridian, about twenty minutes. Larger lots, larger decks, and a lot of river-adjacent property.
Kuna
South of Meridian, under twenty minutes. Acreage, horse property, and detached structures rather than attached decks.
Star
Northwest of Meridian, about seventeen minutes. The fastest-growing small town in the valley, almost all new build.
Nampa
West on I-84, twenty to thirty minutes. The largest city in Canyon County, with real pre-war housing stock.
Caldwell
Nineteen miles west, around twenty-five minutes. Canyon County seat, with a large historic residential district.
Garden City
Fifteen minutes east, tucked between Boise and Eagle. Small, riverside, and full of infill.
Middleton
Northwest into Canyon County, about half an hour. Small town, larger lots, growing fast.
Two counties, one climate
A deck in Meridian, Nampa, or Star is the same deck. One valley floor, one frost depth, one long dry summer, and the same set of design figures behind the framing. Crossing the county line changes the drive and very little else.
The one physical variable worth knowing is elevation. Meridian, Kuna, and Star sit on flat valley floor. Boise and Eagle climb into the foothills, and a sloped lot turns a simple deck into an elevated structure with taller posts, bigger footings, a full guard, and a longer stair run. That difference is worth 30 to 60 percent on the same square footage.
